The third of the training series in remote sensing applications in water resources management was held under the theme of “Synthetic-aperture Radar (SAR) Data Characteristics, Pre-processing and Use in Water Resources Management” between 30 January - 2 February 2023 at Turkish Water Institute (SUEN).
Prof. Dr. Nebiye MUSAOĞLU from Istanbul Technical University – Satellite Communications and Remote Sensing Implementation and Research Center (ITU-CSCRS) gave lectures on general principles and theory of SAR combined with practices on the SNAP software. Dr. Cengiz ARSLANOĞLU from the Yalova Atatürk Horticultural Central Research Institute demonstrated some application examples on how to process SAR data with SNAP software.
Experts from the GD of State Hydraulic Works, the GD of Water Management, the GD of Agricultural Research and Policies, the GD of Agricultural Reform, the GD of Information Technologies and SUEN under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry attended the course.
The course covered below topics:
- Synthetic-aperture Radar: Detection Principles and General Properties
- SAR - Topographic Distortions
- SAR - Resolution Specifications: Azimuth and Range Resolution
- Interpretation of SAR Images
- SAR Images Pre-processing
- Image Preprocessing, Vector Applications, Time Series Analysis, Heap Processing Applications, Change Analysis with SNAP
