As part of the collaboration among the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the General Directorate of Water Management of Türkiye and SUEN, an online training workshop was held on "Water Governance and Integrated Water Resources Management" on 24-26 January 2023 to the benefit of experts from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries’ national water resources authorities.

Within the scope of the training attended by nearly 100 experts, presentations were made on below topics where fruitful discussions took place:

- Definition and principles of good water governance

- Principles of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and River Basin Planning

- Principles of the EU Water Framework Directive

- Türkiye’s Practices in Water Governance and IWRM (River Basin Management Planning, Flood and Drought Prevention and Management, Early Warning Systems, Resilience & Sectoral Allocation Plans, Water Efficiency Practices, National Water Efficiency Programming, Benchmarking of the Performance of Water Utilities, Transboundary Water Cooperation)

In addition to above topics, in the last session of the program, good practices carried out within the scope of IWRM by the OIC institutions, ICESCO (Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and INWRDAM (Inter-Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management), as well as by Lebanon, Nigeria and Pakistan were presented.
