SUEN attended the regional symposium organized by the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME) in Valencia, Spain, between 19-20 September 2022, with the theme of “Our Mediterranean: Water Challenges and Regional Priorities for 2050”. The Task Forces on Access to Water-Sanitation-Hygiene and Water-Climate Change under the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) held meetings as a side event. SUEN took part in the symposium by representing Türkiye as the Co-Chair of the UfM Water-Employment-Migration Task Force.

As the Mediterranean region is heavily affected by climate change, the steps to be taken in the context of the future of water were discussed. The preparatory works for the 5th Mediterranean Forum to be held in 2023 in Tunisia and the 10th World Water Forum to be organized in 2024 in Bali were also discussed. In addition, water predictions for 2050 and alternative water resources in the region as well as the Global Observatory on Non-conventional Water Resources and Associated Renewable Energies, established under the leadership of IME, were evaluated.
