The second stakeholder workshop was held in Konya on 21-22 June 2022 with the participation of relevant local/central authorities and academicians in order to share the decision support system (WATERMED platform) studies, which are being carried out within the scope of the WATERMED project, funded by the EU PRIMA program.
The main goal of the WATERMED platform is the optimization of fertilizer and water inputs in agriculture, thus it has been developed by taking into account technical aspects, as well as governance factors for a more efficient use of water in agriculture. To achieve this goal, field studies are implemented in Algeria, Spain and Türkiye, and irrigation/fertilization plans are being developed by the platform, deploying smart agricultural technologies in the process.
The first day of the workshop focused on delivering information on different modules of the WATERMED platform with the aim to discuss and exchange ideas on further improving the platform. In addition, two surveys were conducted to identify the gaps and needs in (i) the use of treated wastewater in agriculture and (ii) the impact of governance on efficient management of agricultural water use. On the second day of the workshop, the demo site in Konya was visited with participants, the studies of which have been carried out since last year on the use of treated wastewater in agriculture.
