JRC Report: SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance Employing Sewage - Towards a Sentinel System

The “Nationwide SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance Studies in Wastewaters” coordinated by Turkish Water Institute (SUEN) throughout Turkey took part as a section in the report, “SARS-CoV-2 Surveillance Employing Sewage Towards a Sentinel System”, published by EU Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC). The study was mentioned as one of the prominent applications in Europe.

 

The report, aiming to share the knowledge and experiences gained by EU countries in the last year, underlines the importance of the surveillance studies as an effective tool for early detection of outbreaks given that the virus is shed in the faeces of individuals with symptomatic or asymptomatic infection.
