Webinar on ‘Lessons Learned from SARS-CoV-2 in Wastewater’

A webinar was held on August 27th, 2020 to share knowledge and experiences gained from the exemplary national and international SARS-CoV-2 surveillance works in wastewaters. In the opening statement, SUEN President Prof. Dr. Ahmet Mete Saatçı stressed the importance of surveillance studies and gave recommendations for the future. Dr. Saatçı highlighted the fact that these works have the potential to function as a cost-effective early warning tool.

 

 

The findings of the studies implemented by Turkey, USA and South Africa were presented by country experts. A fruitful discussion took place where points of discussion were raised on subjects such as the infectiousness of the virus in wastewaters, the necessary framework for nation-wide surveillance studies, and the possibility of the studies to serve as an early warning system.

 

The webinar was followed by 367 experts from 42 countries.
