A group of 18 engineers originally from Syria residing in Turkey attended a short course and observational study tour program in Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa between 9-13 March 2020 as part of the project, “Extensive capacity development program for Syrian water engineers in Water, Sanitation and Irrigation sector” implemented in cooperation with the Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU).
With the support of Turkish State Hydraulic Works (DSI) and under the theme chosen as the fourth training subject, “design and operation of irrigation systems”, the program covered different lecture topics from calculation of water requirements for agricultural crops, design principles of drainage and irrigation networks to O&M principles of irrigation systems.
A detailed field trip was made to the Atatürk Dam and Bozova Pumping Irrigation projects. Participants who successfully completed the course received their certificates of course completion on the last day of the program.
