A group of 18 engineers originally from Syria residing in Turkey attended a short course and study tour program at the Turkish Water Institute (SUEN) between 9-13 December 2019 as part of the project, “Extensive capacity development program for Syrian water engineers in Water, Sanitation and Irrigation sector” implemented in cooperation with the Assistance Coordination Unit (ACU).

Under the theme chosen as the first training subject, “design of drinking water treatment plants”, the goal of the program is to equip the experts with the technologies and good practices in drinking water treatment.

The program covered different lectures from principles and technologies of drinking water to computer applications in the design of drinking water treatment plants. A detailed field trip was organized to the Ömerli Reservoir and Drinking Water Treatment Plant in Istanbul. Participants who successfully completed the course received their certificates of course completion at the end of the program.

In collaboration with ACU, SUEN will extend the capacity development programs in different water, wastewater and irrigation related topics within the year 2020.
