Turkish Water Institute (SUEN) attended the Blue Peace in the Middle East Meeting on 30-31 August 2018 in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. The Blue Peace Initiative coordinated by the India-based think-tank Stratejik Foresight Group (SFG) since 2009 has the mission to transform water from a potential source of crisis into a potential instrument of cooperation and peace through concrete actions.
Besides high-level country experts and media representatives from the region, the meeting was attended by Danilo Turk, former President of Slovenia, Christian Schoenenberger, Ambassador of Switzerland to Sweden, as well as representatives from international organizations such as Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), Global Water Partnership (GWP), Cewas Middle East) and Geneva Water Hub.
Under the new structure, SUEN is intended to take over the initiative’s coordination role from SFG as from January 1st, 2019 as the Coordination Office. It was also agreed that agricultural water efficiency be identified as the single thematic area to be the focus of work in the beginning.
