The closing meeting of SUEN’s first project "Ceylanpınar Region Groundwater Modeling and Preparation of Management Plan” was held at SUEN.
Within the scope of the project, the current situation of the Ceylanpınar Basin groundwater mass was determined by the contractor (Su Vakfı). A groundwater management plan was prepared through creating future scenarios with a model produced by utilizing the software developed by Su Vakfı Chair Prof. Dr. Zekai Şen.
The meeting highlighted the strategic importance of the Ceylanpınar Basin, which has one of the largest reservoirs of Turkey’s largest underground water and is of transboundary nature.
During the meeting, Su Vakfı Chair Prof. Dr. Zekai Şen presented the results of the project and introduced the model. The meeting was attended by representatives of the General Directorate of State Water Works (DSI) and General Directorate of Water Management (SYGM), as well as the former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akca and former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Prof. Dr. Hasan Z. Sarıkaya. Additional comments and contributions were also presented at the meeting held in a Q&A format.
Applied training for the use of the developed model will be given to the personnel of the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs from 6th to 16th December 2016.
