Learning journey to the Nile River Basin

August 10, 2016 – Water experts from the Nile River Basin and the Middle East met in the “Water Experts Meeting and Technical Tour” organized by the Strategic Foresight Group (SFG) in Uganda. The meeting facilitated interaction and exchange of experiences on transboundary water cooperation between African and Middle Eastern water experts.

Organized in Entebbe on 7-11 August 2016, the meeting had African experts give information on the Nile River Initiative, the Tripartite Agreement between Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia on the Renaissance Dam. Various African river basin authorities shared their experiences. The SFG informed the participants about the Blue Peace Community Activities and held a session on “Water Cooperation Quotient” created by SFG in collaboration with Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swiss Development and Cooperation Agency (SDC), and the parameters to measure active water cooperation based on experiences of the African River Basins. At the end of the conference, a technical visit was organized to the Jinja Dam built on the White Nile draining from Lake Victoria.
