As part of the collaboration among the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), Istanbul Technical University (ITU) and SUEN, an online training workshop was held on “Membrane Technologies for Desalination and Wastewater Recycling” between 31 July and 1 August 2024 to the benefit of experts and directors from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries’ water and wastewater authorities.

On the first day Prof. Dr. Lütfi Akca, President of SUEN and Dr. Nenden Shanty, Director of Training and Technical Cooperation of SESRIC delivered the opening speeches followed by detailed presentations made by Rector of ITU, Prof. Dr. İsmail Koyuncu on membrane technologies in desalination and wastewater recycling.

On the second day, good practice examples from OIC countries (Qatar, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan and Türkiye) were shared by country experts. In the closing session of the program, participants exchanged ideas on the potential and future of membrane technologies in OIC countries.
