The new Global Consortium for Wastewater and Environmental Surveillance for Public Health (GLOWACON) was launched in Brussels over 19-20 March 2024. Its primary objective is to create an international sentinel system for the early detection, prevention, and real-time monitoring of epidemic threats and outbreaks.
The event included participation of more than 300 key global partners including European Commission's Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), the World Health Organization (WHO), US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and SUEN.
Concept papers were presented on below themes:
- Consortium set-up and cross-cutting aspects
- Consolidated technical guidance
- Data analytics, modelling, sharing and interoperability
- Training and capacity building
SUEN is co-leading the “Training and Capacity Building” concept paper under GLOWACON.
