SUEN Joined the UN 2023 Water Conference

SUEN participated in the UN 2023 Water Conference held in New York on 22-24 March 2023, hosted by the Netherlands and Tajikistan. At the first UN water conference held after 46 years, the role of water in achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), solutions related to water and the commitments of the countries were discussed.


The conference kicked off with the opening of World Water Day on March 22, celebrated with the theme of "Accelerating Change through Partnerships and Cooperation". The three-day conference was attended by 2,000 people, culminating in the adoption of the Water Action Agenda, a "milestone" action plan that includes nearly 700 commitments to protect "humanity's most valuable global common good".


A delegation from Türkiye chaired by Minister Prof. Dr. Vahit KİRİŞCİ, participated in the conference. The side events titled “Towards Achievement of Water Action Agenda: Reaching Beyond the Borders” under the theme of “Water for Cooperation” hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and “Wastewater Surveillance for Public Health Monitoring: Using the One-Health Approach to Meeting the SDGs” under the theme of “Water for Health” in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and SUEN were organized.


SUEN, within the scope of the UN Water Conference, participated as a panelist in the side events titled “Water Diplomacy Symposium 2023: Global Experience Sharing as part of the UN Water Conference” hosted by the Women in Water Diplomacy Network in partnership with the Environmental Law Institute, the Stockholm International Water Institute, the International Joint Commission, the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy and the University of Arizona, “Water Security and Hydro-diplomacy: Turning the Spotlight on Knowledge-Sharing, Accelerating Cooperative Action, and Role of Multilateral Forums” hosted by the Konras Adenauer Stiftung and the Stimson Research Center and “Commitments to Accelerate Cooperation on Water, Environment, Climate, and Peace” organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute.
